Pictures: Rocky Mountain Elk Sheding/Loosing It's Antlers

Elk as seen a week before with both antlers attached.

This Rocky Mountain Elk, or Watipi as the Native American's call it, had both antlers about a week before these pictures were taken. When it was seen on a hillside where it is often found this time of year, and it only had one. I immediately hiked over to it thinking it would make fore a cool picture, with only one antler. However when I arrived and saw it in the trees both where gone! I glanced about and saw it sticking out of the snow. Hopefully it will come back next year and repeat the process, and perhaps I'll get a couple photos of it with only one antler.
